10 Questions with Duke & Duchess Pet Outfitters
Being the totally cavalier obsessed girl that I am, I couldn’t have been more excited to photograph products for a company inspired by cavaliers! We interviewed the owner of Duke & Duchess Pet Outfitters and can’t wait to share it with you!
1. When did you start Duke & Duchess Pet Outfitters?
I started thinking about Duke and Duchess in June 2017 and we officially opened our online stores the first week of September 2017.
2. What inspired you to start this new venture?
I was searching online for harnesses for my two little cavaliers, Buddy and Daisy. However, all I found were generic harnesses, which all the other doggies wear. I wanted something unique and special for my two. I have owned a sewing machine since I can remember and my grandmother was a dressmaker, as well as having my own Textiles qualifications. So, I have always made clothes and home textiles for myself. So, I thought, I could make something unique and stylish, yet functional for Buddy and Daisy myself. I designed a couple of harnesses and tried them out on my two and we had a great response from other dog owners on our walks, so I decided to start making them for other doggies too.
3. Where are you based?
We are based in South London.
4. How are D & D products made?
All our products are handmade in my sewing studio at home.
5. We love your romantic fabrics, where do you find your inspirations?
I take inspiration from current trends, like our unicorn harness, as well as home interior fashions.
6. We love our custom-made harness, could you tell us more about the customisation options available?
All our harnesses are fully customisable as each order is hand made specifically for each pooch. Additional trims, like the one on Amelia’s harness are available. As well as the addition of bows, bow-ties, flowers, ribbons or pockets. We also offer a bespoke service and can create any of our products in a unique design just for your pooch too.
7. Where do you source your beautiful fabrics & ribbons?
Our current range of fabrics come from a family business in Gloucestershire, Higgs and Higgs. Our ribbons and trims come from local London business mainly in Brick Lane as I love searching and browsing haberdashers for unique ribbons, trims and fabirics.
8. Could you tell us about your own beautiful cavaliers?
Buddy is a 3yr old Blenheim cavalier king Charles spaniel and Daisy is a 9month old tri-coloured cavalier. I have owned both since they were 8 weeks old and they come everywhere with me. I travel a lot, so they travel with me and love meeting new people and furry friends they can play with. Buddy loves to sleep and play fetch as Daisy is far more interested in cuddles.
9. What are your hopes & dreams for Duke & Duchess Pet Outfitters for the future?
For the future, I would like to expand our collection in to pet tee-pees, coats and knitwear. As well as move our business into retail stores as well.
10. Lastly! Could you share with us your favourite dog friendly locations in London?
We love going to Paws for Coffee in Hampton Hill, they do puppuchinos for the doggies and hand-made dog biscuits which the doggies love! They are located opposite Bushy park making it the perfect mid-walk pit-stop for us both! We also love the Thomas Cubit in Victoria, Buddy and Daisy love getting attention from other customers!
We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know more about Duke & Duchess Pet Outfitters!
