10 Questions with Teddy Maximus

We caught up with our favourite duo Holly & Teddy from Teddy Maximus! Since meeting this spring Holly has become a close friend of ours. She is a true inspiration to us championing the best British craftsmanship has to offer. Amelia is proudly the founding member of Team Teddy! We love Teddy Maximus & can’t wait to share with you the following interview.

1. Teddy Maximus is the ultimate British lifestyle brand for dogs around the world – how does it feel to have created such a beautiful brand all by yourself?

Thank you soo much! I owe alot of thanks to friends and family who continue to support and champion the brand every step of the way – I literally couldn’t do it without them. The community on Instagram have also been wonderful – we’re delighted to have made some wonderful friends through this platform. It feels incredibly exciting and a real honour when someone chooses us for their pooch but we certainly don’t take it for granted. We’re always striving to improve, listen to feedback and develop new and exciting things.

2. Championing British Craftsmanship is close to your heart, how have you brought this to life with Teddy Maximus?

British craftsmanship is at the heart of everything we do and we are always striving to raise the bar. It’s about quality and knowing where and how everything is made. Even if our production costs are higher, investing in quality and style never goes out of fashion. Our Leathersmith Mo hand makes each lead and collar from start to finish. Our solid brass fittings come a foundry in the UK and our leather carrier straps are handout in a leatherworks in London.

3. What was it about the Liberty London prints that captured your imagination?

Liberty epitomises the romance and beauty of English tradition. Liberty fabrics have been creating inspiring textiles since 1875 and they continue to add original designs to their archives. We love their focus on colour and detail and can’t think of a more beautiful fabric partner for our luxury British products. Our latest collection features a gorgeous pink floral.

4. What are your favourite dog friendly locations in London?

We love Hallys in Parsons Green, they do a great brunch! Putney Pies is also dog friendly with sausages for dogs – Teddy’s favourite. You can’t beat the gorgeous parks of London – they look so beautiful in Summer. And for instagram worthy spots you can’t beat Amelia’s fav Peggy Porschen.

5. What do you & Teddy get up to when you aren’t working on Teddy Maximus?

We enjoy spending time with friends and family across the UK. We love brunching in West london and walks in Richmond Park with our PitPat which monitors your dog’s activity (to ensure we are exercising off brunch haha). We also like yoga!

6. Teddy Maximus now offers a personalisation service, could you tell us more about this?

I still remember the time when we chose Teddy’s name – it’s something really special. I think many people remember choosing their pooches name.We wanted to bring this special personal touch to our neckerchiefs and coats. We can do a full name, monogram initials or even do a message or date! There’s plenty of history behind personalisation too. Early Greek and Roman rulers used their monograms on coins and other currency to identify the ruler of the region from which it came. The earliest known use of the monogram was on clay coins. In the Middle Ages, it became common for artisans to use their own monograms to sign their work. Museum curators today are even able to determine during which part of Rembrandt’s career a particular painting was completed simply by the monogram used to sign the piece!

7. Could you give some advice for aspiring dog wear designers reading this ?

Teddy Maximus is maximus by name and by nature and certainly has a eye for style! He was the inspiration behind the brand. We’re all about fun, luxury British style so being a Dachshund with attitude it was only fitting that he take centre stage!

We are delighted to support the Dogs Trust and have enjoyed several events with them this year. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Pup Aid in September – we are proud to support their event which campaigns against puppy farming. We will also be at the Chihuahua festival in Milton Keynes on 19th August. Discover Dogs in October will also be another fun event and we hope to see you there!

10. What’s in store for Teddy Maximus this year?

We are delighted that people love our bespoke personalisation service – we’ve had all kinds of requests from a special birthday message e.g. ‘Mum@60’ to ‘best dog’ which was embroidered on a neckerchief for a pooch performing ‘best man’ duties! We’ll be celebrating Bentall Kingston’s 150th birthday with an instore personalisation event on 22nd July – so do come and see us if you are about in Surrey!
